When Olga turned 15, the question of getting a professional education became acute for her: "I didn't know how high or low my chances were, despite my good grades. I could easily have turned out to be a big fish in a small pond. But anyway, I decided to go to a technical school."
After finishing 9 grades in St. Petersburg, Olga received a certificate, but had a weak idea of the available areas, and tried to imagine herself as an ecologist or a guide-translator of the German language, relying on the knowledge she received at school. In Russia at that time, there was an advertising boom, and a career in the advertising industry also seemed tempting. At the same time, she already had computer skills, tested in practice by helping teachers with administrative work.
No one was in a hurry to advise, and after assessing special lead the possible options, she chose programming: "The range of suitable technical schools was not large, and I spent four years studying transistor marking, soldering and drawing printed circuit board layouts. and we did not even try to write anything meaningful."
The English course was another weak point in her studies, but Olga was determined to learn it in the future. Having graduated with honors from college, she was afraid that only her improved typist skills had practical application.
“I found myself in a wild and uncharted labor market, where it was difficult to distinguish a normal offer from a dubious one, and I would have spent a long time looking for a job without outside help.
