And this is just on Instagram . Where older people often tend to lump social media together, young people have given each social media channel a different purpose and function. On Snapchat they are themselves, on Instagram they present an image of themselves and on YouTube they are looking for self-affirmation. But also for kicks and conversation material for WhatsApp . And for school of course.
To reach young people as a brand or organization, you first have to understand that they genuinely phone number library see and feel things differently. You have to understand how they communicate and why. And only when you realize that young people are a unique target group, you understand that young people are not a target group at all.
2 cases: FIRST & MISFIT
Jeroen Koopman , Creative Producer at NewBe , understands this better than anyone. “I think the most important thing is to note that there is no such thing as ‘youth’ or ‘young people’ in general, but that this target group is divided into numerous sub-target groups.”
NewBe runs FIRST , a youth platform with 4.2 million views per month, but also developed and produced MISFIT in 2017. MISFIT is a film, with a large YouTube and Instagram channel, and has by far the most viewed Dutch film trailer ever. “FIRST and MISFIT are both aimed at ‘young people’,” says Jeroen. “But there is 0.0 overlap in those young people. If you are not aware of that, you can miss the mark completely. That would be like Disney promoting Frozen on TopNotch’s YouTube channel, or Comedy Central’s The Roast via ZappLive.”
