Google has been under pressure since a major shift in the way the mass market approaches mobile devices. The shift from desktop usage to apps and mobile browsers has opened the door for new platforms to compete for users' time and attention.
Platforms like SearchGPT will have an increasing impact on Google as users start using them en masse for everyday tasks that they would otherwise use the Google ecosystem for. Historically, there is facebook data an analogy to Ford’s Model T – people saw it as a “faster horse” rather than a revolution in transportation.
As SEO professionals, we see this revolutionary aspect of artificial intelligence in full swing, but for the general public, AI is often just about functional "gimmicks" like removing objects from the background in photos.
Which search is best?
In testing, SearchGPT performed better at understanding time-sensitive queries, using more up-to-date sources. By focusing purely on content and eliminating the visual experience, SearchGPT is a better choice for those looking for information on current topics such as holidays, gifts, or products for immediate use, where answers based on older sources are not desirable.
When it comes to local search, however, ChatGPT Search still has a long way to go compared to Google and Bing. The information was presented better than Google and Bing in many cases, but not always and not for all queries.
